Batch-Ready® pre-weighed, non-dusting chemical blends are ideal for meeting expanded environmental protection and work safety requirements.
In response to the steady rise in demand for Batch-Ready® products, Rhein Chemie Rheinau GmbH invested EUR 3 million in the construction of a new production facility at its headquarters in Mannheim-Rheinau, Germany. This recently commenced operation in June. The innovative powder mixing plant mainly produces Batch-Ready® products to customer specifications.
Numerous rubber processors have come to appreciate the highly consistent quality of Batch-Ready® products from Rhein Chemie, which results from the high-precision weighing of the individual formulation components and subsequent metering of the homogenized blend. Furthermore, the powder blends have a lower melting point, which minimizes variations in the compounding process because under typical conditions, the powder blend is incorporated in the rubber compound as a melt and all the chemicals are then distributed uniformly. Another advantage of the new facility is the production of specialty products, such as “dry liquids,” meaning active components in liquid form supported on carrier materials.
Starting up the new facility increased the Batch-Ready® production capacity from 2,000 to 5,000 metric tons per year. The primary objective of the facility is to improve quality and increase the flexibility of the production process. All products are quality controlled by a method of Near-Infrared (NIR) spectroscopy developed specifically for this purpose by Rhein Chemie. To ensure compliance with today’s increasingly important product liability laws, the customer receives comprehensive documentation with every delivery, allowing for complete tracking of all relevant quality and process data. Product changes can be carried out quickly and economically, even in the case of small output volumes, thanks to the facility’s simple but efficient cleaning process. As a result, even tight delivery deadlines can be observed despite the enormous variety of custom formulations.
Batch-Ready® is one of Rhein Chemie’s innovative service concepts. Already a success in the USA, it was launched in Europe in 2000 within the framework of a project. “With this service, we convert chemicals into a user-friendly state. Our customers benefit from totally dust-free chemical handling and highly consistent processes, which in turn leads to significantly lower reject rates and lower costs. The customer receives supplies just-in-time from a single source, so he can eliminate time-consuming, in-house chemical management activities, including weighing and quality control. In short, we offer customers a full service package,” explains Dr. Thomas Kromminga, head of Service Technologies. The additive packages simplify processes, cut costs and increase profitability – an advanced method for managing chemicals.
